Booking a taxi to Heathrow Terminal 5 comes down to three things: a fixed price agreed before the car sets off, a driver who knows to head for T5's own spur road rather than the central terminal tunnel, and a pickup time that's built around your actual journey rather than a rough guess. Here's how that works from each of the towns we cover, and what tends to catch people out.

Why "Terminal 5" needs saying, not just "Heathrow"

Our guide to Heathrow Terminal 5 covers the terminal itself in more detail, but the short version for booking purposes is this: T5 is physically separate from Terminals 2, 3 and 4, reached by its own spur off the M25 at Junction 14 rather than the tunnel road that serves the central terminals. Book a taxi to Heathrow Terminal 5 and say so at the time, rather than just "Heathrow", and the driver heads straight for the right side of the airport instead of defaulting to the central terminal area and correcting once they realise which one you actually need. It's a small detail that saves real minutes, particularly during the early-morning British Airways departure rush T5 handles most of.

Fixed prices by town

The fare for a taxi to Heathrow Terminal 5 is the same fixed Heathrow rate regardless of which of the four terminals you're using — only the route the driver takes to reach the right forecourt changes, not the price. Roughly, from our regular pickup towns:

Windsor to Heathrow — our shortest airport run, around 15 minutes via the A308/A332, the lowest fare we quote.
Slough to Heathrow — usually 15 to 20 minutes via the M4.
Burnham to Heathrow — around 18 minutes via the A4 and M4 under normal conditions.
Maidenhead to Heathrow — around 25 minutes via the A404(M) and M4.
Marlow to Heathrow — the longest of the five, further out along the A404.

Getting the pickup time right

For a departure, we work back from your flight's actual boarding time rather than a generic "two hours before" rule, and build in extra buffer for anything leaving T5 before 7am, since that's when British Airways runs several long-haul departures within the same hour and the forecourt and short-stay car park see the heaviest traffic of the day.

What the driver does differently at T5

T5 has two satellite buildings, T5B and T5C, linked to the main T5A building by an underground train passengers take after security. Arrivals from either satellite still all come out through the same T5A arrivals hall, so it doesn't change your pickup point — that only matters for departures, where it affects which end of the check-in hall we aim for on drop-off. The short-stay forecourt directly outside T5A charges after a few minutes, so as with the other terminals we hold at the free long-stay drop-off and time the approach for when you're actually out, rather than parking on the forecourt and running the meter on a wait.
