Windsor Castle doesn't just bring the tourists, it also decides how fast we can get to you. Castle Hill and the High Street close for State Visits, the Changing the Guard, and Garter Day with little more than a day's public notice, and on those mornings a driver who doesn't already know the diversion route via Sheet Street or Victoria Street will still be sitting on Thames Street when your flight is boarding. We watch the calendar for these days and adjust pickup times before you have to ask.

The Long Walk, running south from the Castle towards the Great Park, is a popular spot for anyone visiting on foot, and a fair number of our bookings are people who've walked out further than they meant to and want collecting from a gate rather than walking all the way back. Eton Bridge, over the river to Eton College, is narrow and often reduced to single file by coach parking on the Eton side — school open days and speech days are worth mentioning at booking so we can plan around them.

Windsor has two stations and they are not interchangeable. Windsor & Eton Central sits by the Castle and connects to Slough for the Elizabeth line and the mainline to Paddington; Windsor & Eton Riverside is a ten-minute walk away on the other side of town and runs direct to London Waterloo. Visitors regularly book a pickup from "Windsor station" without knowing which one they've arrived at, so our drivers confirm the station name rather than assuming, which avoids a wasted trip to the wrong side of town.

Away from the tourist core, Windsor is a quieter town than its postcard image suggests. Alexandra Gardens along the riverside is a regular pickup for families after an afternoon by the water, and the streets off Datchet Road are mostly residential, with school-run and commuter bookings that make up the bulk of our weekday work here. Windsor Great Park, to the south, covers a huge area on foot, and cyclists and dog walkers often need collecting from gates well away from the town centre itself.

Legoland Windsor, a few miles out on the B3022, generates a distinct kind of booking: families with pushchairs and shopping bags, at pickup times clustered tightly around the park's closing time, when every other local firm is also trying to clear the same car park. We take pre-booked Legoland pickups on a fixed time rather than an estimate, so you're not stood at the gate wondering if the car is coming.

Royal Windsor Racecourse, on the bend of the Thames along the Maidenhead Road, brings its own traffic pattern on race evenings — the on-site car parks fill early, and a taxi becomes the easier way in and out once latecomers are turned away at the gate. We approach from the Maidenhead Road side rather than trying to cut through the town centre when there's a meeting on, since the roads nearest the course itself fill solid from an hour before racing starts.

Windsor to Heathrow is the shortest and cheapest of our airport runs from any of the five towns we cover — a fixed £16 for a saloon or £25 for an executive car, usually 20 to 25 minutes depending on which terminal and whether the Datchet Road approach is clear. Local fares into Slough or Maidenhead are typically £10 to £18, confirmed at booking rather than left to a meter.
