Airport taxi van | U Want Taxi

An airport taxi van carries what a standard saloon or estate can't fit in the boot — golf clubs, multiple large cases, bikes, or a full set of team sports equipment. It's built around luggage space rather than passenger count, so two travellers with six bags fit it just as well as five travellers with normal luggage.

A saloon boot holds two or three large cases comfortably, an estate slightly more. Beyond that — a family of four with a case each plus a pushchair, two golfers with clubs and clothing bags, a group heading skiing with boards and boots — the luggage runs out of room before the passenger seats do. That's the gap the taxi van fills.

It's a different vehicle to the minibus for a reason: the minibus is built around passenger count, up to eight people, while the van is built around load space for fewer passengers with more or bulkier luggage. If you've got two or three passengers and an unusual amount of luggage, the van is usually the better fit; if you've got six to eight people and ordinary luggage, the minibus makes more sense. Tell us both numbers — people and bags — when you book, and we'll suggest the right one.

Golf trips are one of the most common reasons we get a van request — a set of clubs takes up as much boot space as two ordinary cases, and two golfers travelling together with full bags rarely fit in a saloon boot alongside their other luggage. The same goes for skiing and snowboarding equipment, cricket or hockey kit for a team fixture, and the odd house move or delivery run that isn't really an airport job at all but uses the same vehicle.

As with any of our airport bookings, the fare is fixed and agreed before you travel, and the flight is tracked so the pickup time moves if the flight does. Because there are fewer vans in the fleet than saloons, book ahead where you can, particularly for an early morning airport run in the summer months when golf and holiday traffic both peak at once.

We run the van from Burnham, Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, Marlow and the surrounding area to Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City, on the same fixed-price, flight-tracked basis as our standard airport transfers — just with the boot space to match what you're actually carrying.

Tell us exactly what's travelling when you book — how many golf bags, how many suitcases, whether there's a buggy or an extra case of wine involved — so the right vehicle turns up rather than a saloon that has to leave something behind.

None of this changes how the booking itself works — flight number, terminal and pickup address, exactly as with any other transfer. The only difference is the vehicle sent to collect you, chosen for what's actually coming with you on the trip rather than simply how many passengers there are. A quick note at booking about oversized items saves a conversation on the doorstep about whether it will all actually fit.
