Marlow's suspension bridge, carrying the A4155 across the Thames, is a genuine bottleneck — a single lane in each direction with a weight limit that keeps the heaviest lorries off it entirely, and traffic backs up on both banks whenever there's roadworks or a breakdown on the approach. Anyone giving directions "over the bridge" in Marlow means specifically this crossing, and a driver who doesn't know its width restriction can end up queuing behind a van that's misjudged it.

Higginson Park, beside the lock, is the town's main green space and the venue for Marlow Regatta and the town's summer events, both of which close nearby roads and fill the usual parking for a weekend at a time. Marlow lock itself draws walkers and rowers year-round, and pickups from the towpath side mean meeting on Mill Road rather than trying to bring a car down to the water.

The High Street runs down to the bridge and is busiest in the evening, when the restaurants and pubs around Court Garden fill up and parking on the street itself all but disappears. Weekend evening bookings here are a big part of our Marlow work, and knowing which side street still has space to pull in — rather than blocking the High Street itself — is the difference between a quick pickup and a ten-minute wait for a gap in traffic.

Marlow's own railway station is a branch line with a limited service, and most journeys to or from London mean changing at Maidenhead or, on some services, Bourne End. That gap is exactly where a taxi earns its keep — commuters who've missed the connecting train, or visitors who didn't realise Marlow wasn't a direct stop, regularly need the last leg covered by road instead.

The A404 out of Marlow toward Handy Cross links into the M40 as well as down to the M4 via Bisham and Marlow Bottom, and locals use whichever junction suits the destination — the M40 route is usually quicker for anyone heading to High Wycombe or the Chilterns rather than towards Heathrow, so it's worth saying where you're actually going rather than just naming a road. The Compleat Angler, right by the bridge, is a regular pickup and drop-off point for guests and wedding parties, and the narrow approach road there fills with parked cars on a Saturday, so we plan to meet arriving guests on the High Street side rather than trying to nose a car down to the hotel forecourt itself. Term-time mornings bring a short but sharp rush around Great Marlow School and the primary schools off Munday Dean Lane, and a five-minute booking can take twice as long if it lands right in the school-run window.

Heathrow from Marlow is the longest and most expensive of our five routes, a fixed £30 for a saloon or £42 for an executive car, reflecting the extra distance out via the A404 to join the M4 rather than a shorter local run. Journey time is typically 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic joining the motorway, noticeably longer than the 20 minutes you'd get from Windsor, so we build in a bigger buffer on early flight pickups from Marlow than we would from anywhere closer to the airport.

Local trips from Marlow — into Maidenhead, over to Bourne End, or down to Cookham — usually run £10 to £20 for a saloon, fixed at the time of booking. For anything further, the same rule applies as everywhere else we cover: the fare agreed on the phone is the fare you pay, whatever the traffic does on the way.
