How far in advance should you book an airport taxi?

There's no minimum notice required to book a taxi to the airport, but there is a real answer to how far ahead you should book, and it depends more on the flight time and the vehicle you need than on some fixed rule everyone should follow.

Same-day is usually fine

For a standard saloon or estate, on a normal weekday, a same-day booking a few hours out is rarely a problem. Availability across Burnham, Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead and Marlow is generally good outside a handful of predictable peaks — early Friday and Sunday evenings, and the run-up to school holidays when everyone seems to be flying at once. If you've had a flight change at short notice or simply forgot to book, don't assume you've left it too late; call and ask.

When booking ahead actually matters

Early departures

A 4am pickup for a 6:30am flight is completely normal for us, but booking the day before means the driver has your flight number and pickup time locked in before their shift starts, rather than us trying to arrange it in the small hours. It also means you're not the one lying awake wondering whether the booking went through.

Minibuses and larger groups

We run fewer 8-seaters than saloons, simply because there are fewer of them on the road. School holiday weekends

The Saturdays either side of half-term and summer holidays are the closest thing we have to a genuine peak. Booking a week ahead rather than the night before is sensible if your dates fall on one of these, particularly for early morning slots to Heathrow or Gatwick.

Executive cars for a specific occasion

If timing matters — a client pickup, an event with a fixed schedule — book ahead so the right vehicle and driver are allocated rather than whichever car happens to be free. Our executive travel service works best booked a day or two out for exactly this reason.

What booking ahead doesn't change

The fare. Whether you book a fixed-price saloon to Heathrow a month out or call an hour before you need to leave, the price is the same fixed fare depending on vehicle. Early booking buys certainty about the vehicle and driver, not a discount, and there's no early-bird pricing to chase. That's true whether you're travelling from Maidenhead, Slough or Windsor — the fare is fixed at booking regardless of how far ahead you call.

The one thing worth doing regardless of notice

Give a flight number, always, whether you're booking a month ahead or calling from the departure lounge for a return pickup. It's the detail that lets a driver adjust to an actual landing or departure time rather than a scheduled one, and it matters more than how many days' notice sits behind the booking. Booking too far ahead — is that a problem?

Not really, though there's a practical limit to how useful it is. Booking a fixed date and time months out is fine for a known holiday or a wedding, but flight times themselves sometimes shift in the weeks before departure, so it's worth double-checking your booking against the final flight schedule a few days before you travel, particularly if you booked a long way in advance. A quick call to confirm details is never wasted effort.

What happens if plans change after you've booked

Life doesn't always cooperate with a calendar. If your flight time changes, your group size changes, or you simply need to move the pickup by a day, call as early as you can — most changes are straightforward to accommodate, and it's always easier to adjust a booking than to cancel one and start again from scratch. The further ahead you flag a change, the more flexibility there is to accommodate it.

A rough rule of thumb

If it's a standard saloon on a weekday outside school holidays, same-day is fine. If it's an early departure, a minibus, an executive booking, or a peak holiday weekend, aim for a few days ahead rather than the night before.
