Minibus or two saloons? Group airport travel, worked out
Somewhere between four people and eight, every group travelling to the airport together hits the same question: one bigger vehicle, or two smaller ones? The honest answer depends more on luggage than on the headcount itself.
The case for one minibus
Everybody arrives and leaves together, at exactly the same time, with one driver and one booking to coordinate rather than two. For a family with young kids, a stag or hen group, or anyone who'd rather not split up at the last minute over who's riding with whom, this matters more than the fare difference. Our 8-seater minibus takes up to eight passengers and eight large cases, which comfortably covers most groups of five to eight without anyone's luggage getting left behind.
The case for two saloons
A saloon takes four passengers and two large cases. Two saloons therefore cover eight people, same as the minibus, but with only four large cases of capacity between them rather than eight — fine for a weekend bag each, tighter for a fortnight's holiday luggage or golf clubs. Two saloons also mean two pickup points are possible if the group isn't all leaving from the same address, which a single minibus obviously can't do.
Where the luggage question actually decides it
- Six people, light hand luggage only, one pickup address → 6-seater is the simplest single-vehicle option
- Six people with a large case each → the 8-seater minibus has the boot space; the 6-seater alone might not
- Eight people from two different addresses → two vehicles, whatever the mix, since one minibus can't do two pickups
- A stag or hen do with kit, decorations, or matching outfits taking up their own case → count that as genuine luggage, not an afterthought, when deciding
Splitting the fare
A minibus booking, split eight ways, is often the cheapest per-person option precisely because you're paying for one vehicle and one driver rather than two of each. Two saloons cost more in total but give more flexibility on pickup points and timing if the group genuinely needs to leave from different places.
The practical advice
Count the luggage before you count the fare. A group that undersells its own bag count and books a 6-seater when it needed an 8-seater minibus ends up sending a case in a second car anyway, which erases whatever saving the smaller booking was meant to deliver.
